The 3.0L turbocharged B58 engine doesn’t use the typical air-to-air front mount intercooler. Like many newer turbo cars, it relies on an air-to-water system that uses coolant to keep the intake charge cool. That works fine for a stock car in mild conditions. SnailWorks Engineering set out to build the AMS Performance 2019+ BMW M340i B58 Heat Exchanger to hit two goals. Make it the most effective upgrade on the market. Make it easy to install. Our team spent long hours in R&D using Solidworks CAD to design and refine every detail. We pushed it through real on-track testing to prove its performance. The unit fits like stock with no cutting or drilling. It uses the factory hoses, clamps, and mounts. You or your mechanic can drop it in fast. The core slides into the factory mounts and connects to the stock coolant lines. The install is clean and simple. The key to better thermal transfer is more surface area. Our core packs a 54% increase in volume compared to the OEM unit. That extra space pulls heat out of the system faster. It also adds nearly half a gallon of fluid to the system. This creates a bigger thermal buffer that keeps coolant temps stable under load. With a 122% increase in coolant capacity, the system stays cooler for longer. That keeps heat soak from cutting your power.

The Difference Is In The Details

The heart of any air-to-water intercooler system is the heat exchanger core. If you cut corners here, your upgraded setup might actually perform worse than stock. This dual pass core moves coolant through the heat exchanger twice before it exits. That extra loop helps it shed heat fast and keep intake temps down. We tested multiple core types in different sizes and layouts to find the best balance of flow and cooling. The AMS Performance 2019+ BMW M340i B58 Heat Exchanger uses a 5mm tall louvered fin. This gave us the strongest heat transfer and the best coolant tube count of any design we tried. The louvered shape also creates more surface area, which means faster, more efficient cooling. Material choice and design details matter. That’s why the end tanks are made from billet 6061 T6 aluminum, then CNC machined for a tight, consistent fit. Using billet allowed us to build in OEM-style mounting points so the heat exchanger locks in place just like the factory part. These integrated features are hard to match with cheaper methods, which is why our kit fits and performs the way it should.
